New Navigation System for Cars Introduced in Abu Dhabi

The traffic authorities in the Abu Dhabi and all over the UAE continue to facilitate motorists with the latest navigation technologies through their smart applications and advanced systems. These smart apps and advanced navigation systems are built to reduce the traffic problems in the UAE. In 2014, a smart application “Darb” was launched by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT) in the Abu Dhabi. This app provides the necessary information to the motorists about parking areas and the areas with high traffic congestions. After the 100,000 downloads of the application, the DMAT has now decided to launch a complete navigation system based on the services provided in their smart application.

How the New Navigation System Will Work

The new navigation system will be set in the navigation devices of the cars. The purpose of launching a complete navigation system in cars is to limit the use of smartphones for navigation while driving and to improve the standard of navigation information provided to the motorists.

Official Statement About the New Navigation System

The Director for Integrated Intelligent Transportation Systems at DMAT, Salah Al Mazrouqi said that the new navigation system developed by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport will provide updated information to the motorists about the parking areas and places with heavy traffic congestions. He also told that the new navigation system will be set in the navigation devices of cars which will discourage the use of the smartphone while driving to navigate from one place to another.

Efforts of DMAT to Expand the New Navigation System

As a part of their efforts to expand the newly introduced navigation system, the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport has partnered with Toyota Tsusho Asia Pacific which is the trading arm of Toyota Group and Inrix, a firm that specializes in data information services. Inrix works with car manufacturers like BMW, Daimler and Audi. According to Salah Al Mazrouqi, 15% of the new Toyota cars will have this Navigation system by 2017 and 10-20% of all cars in Abu Dhabi are expected to have this technology in the near future. It is a highly useful navigation system that ensures a stress-free ride for the motorists in Abu Dhabi.
