The increase in traffic and road blocks has given rise to frustration among drivers. In order to make drivers’ experience better, Hyundai has launched the Healthcare Cockpit Concept, a revolutionary and futuristic concept that will be able to ensure the well-being of drivers and its occupants.

On the Consumer Electronics Show 2017, held in Las Vegas this month, Hyundai revealed the Healthcare Cockpit Concept. It was showcased in an immersive virtual reality room for the visitors in order to give them a feel of the cockpits function. It is designed to beat the stress and tiredness level of the driver while travelling.

Here we will discuss the specifications of this new technology, which will be used to help stimulate senses of the driver, how this cockpit will work and what are the future prospects of this state of the art stress free driving concept.

Health and Mobility Cockpit

Health conscious cars are the new thing for the New Year and Hyundai is on top of the game already. The Health + Mobility Concept is all about monitoring health and related indicators to help manage stress and other negative effects of driving in heavy traffic.

The cockpit is said to contain biometric sensing technology that helps monitor driver’s moods and creates an in-car experience for the driver’s mental state. This sensory technology is enabled to detect everything, from the driver’s postures to their respiratory rate and breathing depth. Other than the respiratory detection levels, the technology is able to track the heart rate level as well as use eye tracking and facial feature recognition to measure alertness and emotional state. Through this multi-sensory tracking, the cockpit can customize a response for the mental awareness and focus of the driver accordingly. Furthermore, the Health and Mobility also showcases a futuristic concept of the Mobility Vision that hyper connects the car with a smart house.

Physical Characteristics of the Hyundai Healthcare Cockpit Concept

The physical attributes of this futuristic car are anything other than what we see in the industry at the moment. The steering wheel-less Health + Mobility Cockpit features an executive chair in front that has a 180 degree swirling function. The interior also has a J shaped couch at the back that extends to the front. There is a noticeable dashboard that sits in front with a massive display screen that contains all information a driver would need.

So, how do the sensory monitors work and destress the driver when it’s needed, without causing too much disruption? Let’s discuss the micro experiences an occupant can go through while in the Hyundai Healthcare Cockpit.

As mentioned above, the cockpit enables an in-car experience for the driver’s well-being. This is done through the Bursts systems that trigger responses enabled through sensory monitoring technology. These Bursts consist of a variety of physical and mental responses. Their responses are majorly categorized into three Bursts; the Mood Bursts, the Alert Bursts and the Calm Bursts. They are largely dependent on the sensory activities of the driver and focused on keeping the driver alert and concentrated at all times while driving.

The Mood Bursts – Prevents Lose of Focus

If the driver is in the process of losing concentration, the “Mood Burst” will be triggered. It is basically a way to prevent the driver in losing focus and concentration while driving. It creates a combination of two or more experiences to create various drivers’ responses. To prevent any loss of focus, the cockpit will alter the driver’s posture automatically in a more upright position. The Pneumatic lumbar systems will also start a massage feature for relaxation purposes.

Furthermore, variation of cool and warm lights across the cockpit will cause an impact on the mood of the driver towards a more focused position.

The Calm Bursts – To Pacify Stressful Environment

In the incident of the driver having high stress levels or frustration during driving with an increased heart rate, the Calm Burst feature will be enabled in the cockpit. This feature will unleash a combination of sensory experiences that will allow the driver to go into relaxed mode. The sensory experiences include an advanced scent system, change in temperature and soothing sounds in order to invigorate the mood of the occupants.

The Alert Bursts – To Get Back on Track

Hyundai Healthcare Cockpit concept is not only about preventive measures. In case of the driver completely losing concentration while driving, the Alert Bursts will come into play. The use of warning lights and alerting alarms within the cockpit will help alert the senses of the driver in case of any upcoming danger.

Future of the Hyundai Healthcare Cockpit Concept

The idea of the Hyundai Healthcare Cockpit Concept is to show how, just by stimulating the basic senses of an individual through an advanced sensory technology, can enable a driver to safely enjoy his/her vehicle ride.

The future of this cockpit concept is unclear in terms of whether it will be reproduced in incoming Hyundai vehicle models. But what is certain is the fact that this biometric sensory technology, along with other new features, will most likely be reflected in the company’s car models.
