The World’s Most Expensive Car

Dubai residents had the opportunity in November of 2013 to see some of the most luxurious cars in the Dubai Motor Show, including the newest Dubai Police Department’s white-and-green supercars. Then the Grand Parade took place, putting other luxurious and vintage vehicles on display, such as the ZTR Roadster, the Champion Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Car, the McLaren MP4-12C, and some pretty impressive motorcycles. However nothing compares to the world’s most expensive car, that was on display in the Dubai Mall.

The Lamborghini Aventador is already an extremely impressive vehicle, from its visual appearance right down to the mechanics. But this particular Lambhorghini Aventador was a special model. It was the LP700-4 and, while the prototype that was on display was only gold-plated, the actual custom car that is the brainchild of Lamborghini and Robert Gülpen is literally carved out of gold with silver and platinum accents. That’s right! This amazing piece of art is carved from one large 500 kg bar of gold! Well, it’s really a carbon-fiber base covered in 25 kg of gold, which helps to balance out the weight issue. But even so, with that in mind, you would think that the price of this bad boy would be upwards of many millions of dollars. But the value placed on this vehicle is $7.4 million, a large portion of which will go to charity ($650,000). That price includes the $1.5 million worth of gold and the $1.5 worth of diamonds not counting the other precious stones and raw materials. You would also think that this car might be more of a “look” car than a “touch” car – think again. Lamborghini ensured that this one-of-a-kind Aventador kept its power with a V12 engine, a 7-speed transmission and 700bhp. In spite of the weight, the car still reaches 100 kmph in under 3 seconds. As far as little luxurious touches, the headlights are encrusted with diamonds, totaling 2000 over the entire car, and each seat will have 700 precious stones woven into the fabric, making the total value of the material alone $2.6 million. It took 18 months and 10 specialist engineers from seven different companies.

The idea was to auction the car after its public display, but Lambhorgini says anyone who is willing to offer Dh27 million can buy it right off of the exhibition floor. Included in the purchase would be a complementary personalization of certain details. Until then, a prototype of it was in the Bloomingdale Atrium in the Dubai Mall setting records. So far, it is (surprise!) the most expensive car in history, the car with the most secure showcase (it is surrounded by bulletproof glass) and the car featuring the most luxurious logo.
