Drivers who have accumulated fines of more than Dh3,000 can pay in installments if their vehicle is registered in the emirate.
The balance must be paid in no more than 12 installments, which must be made within a year of the fines being issued. The first payment must cover 30 per cent of the amount owed.
Each payment must be by check and there is a Dh60 cash charge for each one written. The service is not available to anyone known to have written a dishonored check.
The service is available to all motorists whose vehicles have Dubai license plates, and Emiratis with cars registered in other Emirates who owe more than Dh5,000.
It is also open to companies owing more than Dh20,000, but for these the first payment must be 50 per cent of the total owed.
Applications can be made in the two main Dubai Police traffic departments in Deira and Bur Dubai.
Emiratis must take three months worth of bank statements and a copy of their passport or identity card.
Expatriates must take three months of bank statements, with the salary clearly stated, a copy of their passport, their ID card and a valid resident’s visa.
If the salary is not stated on the bank statements, a salary certificate is required.
Owners are not allowed to sell or transfer ownership of a car until all payments have been made.
