Unified Gulf specifications for cars in 2014

The Gulf specifications include standards for the environment and cars which work with electricity and gas. The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology is currently preparing to put a unified and integrated GCC Specifications for all the cars where was finally agreed on these specifications with the GCC Standardization Authority and it mentioned that the release of finalized specifications will be in the first quarter of 2014. It noted that the specifications will include a broad framework for standards relating to the environment in addition to the specifications for the new cars which working with electricity or natural gas. It showed that the unified Gulf specifications provide cars with the best quality and specifications for the consumer in all respects compared to the previous standards which were focused on the safety requirements only.

In more detailed, Mohammed Saleh Badri which is the General Manager of the institution said “currently the institution is developing the first integrated and unified specifications for all the cars in the GCC according to an initiative that has been agreed upon during a meeting held in Riyadh last May by the Gulf Standardization institution and he explained that the new integrated specifications will include the best global practices and take into account the environmental standards of modern cars and those related to automobiles powered by electricity or natural gas as well as requirements for emissions from cars”. He added that the new integrated specifications which are expected to be issued in its final form during the first quarter of 2014 include all the modern standards of quality and safety procedures extensively which ensuring access to the best uniform standards for cars supplied to the Gulf countries. Also, he mentioned that it is expected to hold meetings and workshops that include specifications and standards bodies of Gulf with the aim of agreeing on requirements for standardization of cars on the level of the Gulf States.

He also said that the importance of these new specifications is that it will provide an integrated and united framework for cars imported to the GCC markets where these new specifications will include points that stirred controversy in the country and some Gulf markets related to the using of speed control and the safety standards related to it or the need for fog lights in the cars. Also, he pointed out that those new specifications will be reflected on the local consumer as well as the customers in GCC with several positive effects including trading cars at the best requirements of quality and global safety in the region plus taking the advantage of the environmental specifications whether related to converting cars to natural gas or modern cars operating with electricity in addition to the benefits of reducing emissions from cars.
