Motorists in RAK will no longer need to stand in long queues to renew the registration card of their vehicle as the licensing department has digitalized this service. Motorists will now be able to renew their car registration card only through the Ministry of Interior Smart App and this initiative aims to elevate the standard of traffic authorities’ electronic services. This smart service will be provided through the Ministry of Interior (MOI) Smart App, which is available on both Android and Apple app stores. Motorists can apply for the renewal of registration card of their light vehicles through MOI Smart App from February 1, 2018.
Official Statement on the New Smart Service by RAK Police
The announcement of car registration renewal service through smart app was made on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Police, said that the new service is in line with the vision and strategic plan of the Ministry of Interior to turn its electronic services into smart services so that customers can perform important transactions quickly and easily.
He added that soon long queues of customers will be history as all the services of RAK Police will become smart. The smart services will save time and effort of the customers to make them happy according to the directives of the UAE leadership. The authorities have started to distribute brochures across the emirate to make motorists aware about the new smart service for renewal of car registration card.
Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, Director General of the Central Operations Department RAK Police, said that all drivers will now have to renew the registration card of their light vehicles on their own through the smart app and this decision will take effect from February 4, 2018.

How to Renew the Registration of a Vehicle?
This service can be availed by both residents and citizens of the UAE who have a vehicle already registered in RAK. Motorists need to follow a stepwise procedure to renew the registration card of their vehicle.
In order to successfully apply for the renewal of your registration card, you will need to submit following documents online:
- Vehicle Registration Card
- Technical checkup report of the vehicle if the first registration was three years old
- Insurance report for last 13 months
You need to follow the steps listed below in order to apply for the renewal of a registration card through Ministry of Interior Smart App:
Step 1: Open the App and click on the Smart Services tab in the Menu Bar.
Step 2: Create an account and Login
Step 3: Fill the form with all the required details and pay the fees electronically. The fee for renewal of registration card is AED 100. After paying the fees, you will get a reference barcode.
Step 4: Attach the required documents.
Step 5: Check if you have received a confirmation message – Upon the approval of your transaction and verification of the application and service-related documents, you will receive a confirmation message on your mobile.
Step 6: Collect your vehicle registration card – You will receive the registration card via Empost (The National Courier Company and a subsidiary of Emirates Post) in the estimated delivery time of one hour.
This is the simple stepwise procedure to follow for the renewal of the registration card for a light vehicle. According to the new decision of the authorities that will be implemented from February 4, 2018, it will be compulsory for motorists to renew their registration on their own through the app.
