Are you always in a hurry when driving? It is time to slow down and you need to even estimate how far a pedestrian is and slow do even more. This is the message that the Umm Al Quwain Police want drivers within the Emirate to understand. A car buyer must always be responsible and drive in a speed that they are able to control to accommodate other road users and more so the pedestrian who depend on drivers to be safe on the road.

A three month campaign themed “Ensure Pedestrian Safety” and spearheaded by the Traffic and Patrols department has incorporated the media and the public to spread public awareness on road safety. This kind of initiative is very encouraging especially coming from the police because it means that road safety is a top concern in top government organs.

According to Lt-Colonel Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of the department, the aim is to promote respect for pedestrians in the emirate, especially following reported cases of traffic run-overs in the last year with some resulting to death and serious injuries to the victims. From distributing media materials to improving regulations; the police are committed to make this directive work.

A fine of Dh500 will be imposed on violators in addition to 6 black points on the driver’s license. Having black points on your license is a negative as it can even result to loss of your right to drive. It is therefore absolutely necessary to ensure that the safety of others on the road is a top priority for you as a driver.
