The Sharjah Police in the United Arab Emirates managed to develop a system that prevents movement of the car without tying the seatbelt where the seatbelt is one of the most important security systems in the car because its function is fastening the driver and the passengers on the seat in case of any accident in order to protect him/her from any hard injuries. This system is based on linking the use of safety belt with the transmission system of the car. Major General Hamid Mohammed Hudaidi who is the Chief of Sharjah Police witnessed the practical test of the system where Sharjah Police made a lot of tests on many types of vehicles to make sure of its effectiveness in preventing the movement of the vehicle before tying the seatbelt.
The development of the system is made in light of the increased risk as a result from not using the seatbelts by many drivers in the country in addition to the high casualties caused by vehicle’s accidents as a result for neglecting the seatbelt while driving on the roads. This system aims to oblige the drivers to use the seatbelt while driving and inserting it within the necessary mechanisms to move the vehicle which contribute to the prevention of many accidental movements for the vehicle by a lot of children all the time which is very dangerous and risky. The accidental movement for the vehicle is leading to put the children lives and safety at risk according to many reports related to this matter.
Major General Hamid Mohammed Hudaidi ordered to implement the system on the vehicles used in the general headquarters of Sharjah Police as an initial stage and according to the results, the authorized committee will study the possibility of implementing the system on other levels through submission the results to the Ministry of the Interior and circulated it to all military vehicles used with the departments of Interior Ministry.
Also, he ordered to examine the procedures of registering this innovative system as a patent and conducting seminars with the authorized bodies and the specifications’ committee in the country about the possibility of certifying this system later as one of the standard specifications for the imported cars into the country in preparation for including the system within the Gulf specifications of cars according to the findings of the studies.
