The UAE as an Up-and-Coming Exporter of Cars in the Middle East

There are a lot of factors that are extremely conducive to the idea of the UAE becoming a major exporter of used cars. One is that it has a prime location for an entire half of the world, central ports and airports. Another is that it has a lot of used cars. The automotive industry in the UAE has absolutely exploded in the past few years, putting a lot of purchasing power in the hands of the residents. A love for cars and driving mixed with the ability to afford new luxury cars frequently leads to a surplus of well-maintained, almost-new cars. One final factor that is conducive to the UAE being a major exporter of cars is that Dubai has a lot of free trade zones, which encourage the import and export of many products, in this case namely used cars.

The UAE has targeted Asian and African markets, which is quite beneficial considering that they have prime access to high-quality used cars and the Asian markets are becoming more able to purchase vehicles.

The Dubai Cars and Automotive Zone (DUCAMZ) was established in April 2000, and is one of Economic Zones World’s comprehensive marketplaces. This free trade zone, located in Dubai City and over one million square meters, is monitored by the Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA), that manages the DUCAMZ in providing quality service and keeping technology and information management up to date. The zone is a prime location for any kind of trade, as it has direct access to all ingress and egress points of the country, along with regional roadways that link the neighboring countries by land. The JAFZA is in charge of supervising all activity within the DUCAMZ, providing companies with whatever documentation and assistance is required when importing and exporting goods, such as licenses, customs assistance and administration services.

In 2010, FDI Magazine ranked Dubai Airport Freezone as the highest free trade zone in the Middle East and second in the World Freezone of the Future. Even though this zone is not directly related to the automotive industry, it gives an idea of just how influential the UAE has become in the global market from an international perspective. As long as these areas remain open and the markets remain receptive, they will continue to be focal point for growth within the UAE.
