As electric car sales on a verge of peak in most developed countries around the world but these cars yet to make a good impact in Middle East. The first electric car to come in this region is Fisker Karma, but its sales were not started mainly because of bankruptcy. Another car to emerge is the Lexus hybrids which also fail to impress public due to high prices and lack of performance. On the other hand, Nissan was not able to show its impact because of non adjustment to hot weather of this region. The most awaited car in U.A.E is the Tesla Model S. However, it’s not officially launched or offered in U.A.E. But it is spotted on Abu Dhabi roads.
It’s the second model after the Roadster. It is a large 5-door lift back. Its prototype was first shown to the public on 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and it gets released on 2012 summers. It has become top selling car in European countries with total sales of 20,000.
It is available in different battery sizes; electric Tesla Model S model equipped with an 85 kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack and has a maximum range of 426 km. It’s the fastest car in the breed of electric power cars. Its price is Dhs 300,000 for 85 kWh model in states. Its model specs include 416 hp and 600 Nm rear mounted electric motor, drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd which is lowest of any car showing the power performance of this model.
The model S Signature specs includes top speed of 201 kph and can do 0-100 kph run in 5.8 seconds. The L-I battery includes about 7,000 battery cells for the 85 kWh pack. It is placed under cabin floor which uses Panasonic cells with nickel-cobalt-aluminum cathodes and carrying a warranty of 8 years. The cost of replacement battery is about Dhs 40,000. This car model can be charges from 240V power supply and it will take around 8-12 hours to charge full. It can be charge in 45 minutes by the supercharger stations available in U.S high ways which offers for free of cost. It’s another feature is the 17-inch touch screen as a console. Only drawback of this model is the time it takes to charge the battery packs which will resist you to travel cross countries or cities quite a distance apart from each other.
