Speed Limits and Lanes on Khalifa bin Zayed Road

Sharjah Directorate of Public Works (DPW) has marked the road to display speed limits and lanes on Khalifa Bin Zayed Road as part of its road-improvement project.

The current location — just after Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bridge towards industrial areas — was chosen in particular, since the maximum speed limit changes from 100 kmph to 80 kmph. Many vehicle drivers don’t observe the change and it is expected that these road markings will increase the level of compliance. The DPW is working on remarking all internal and external roads in the city in order to improve road safety and ensure smooth traffic flow.

The project was implemented in coordination with the Sharjah Police, the main strategic stakeholder of the DPW.

Mohsin Balwan, Director of Traffic Engineering Department, urged road users to take care of road markings and traffic signage while passing by.

Roads are monitored by radars and motorists must comply with speed limits in order to avoid fines. The speed limits were set in coordination with the Sharjah Police, as per speed limits management strategy in Sharjah, and a detailed study of traffic movement and road specifications. The strategy contributed to eliminating accidents on several main roads.

These road markings “have a great role in organizing traffic movement”, he said. Balwan stressed his department is committed to applying international practices and regulations in traffic safety.
