The Abu Dhabi Traffic Police Department has launched an advisory and awareness campaign called “Safe Traffic Summer.” The aim of the campaign is to make the Abu Dhabi roads safer and raise awareness on practices that should be followed to avoid fatal accidents during the summer season. The Abu Dhabi Police has emphasized the importance of keeping a vehicle in good condition during the summer season to avoid dangerous incidents caused by sudden car breakdowns.

With the rising temperature, it is essential that special attention is paid to the condition of vehicles on a daily basis. As part of the campaign, the Abu Dhabi Police will focus on improving the monitoring protocols for roads and highways with heavy traffic. Abu Dhabi Police has been on the forefront of the initiatives taken for the safety and well-being of the motorists. The objective of the newly launched campaign is to enhance motorists’ safety, thus reducing the number of road fatalities.

Abu Dhabi Police has issued a warning against driving vehicles with worn-out tyres. Driving such vehicles during the summer season can pose a big risk to the safety of commuters as it can lead to sudden tyre blowouts causing fatal road accidents. Motorists have to be careful about the maintenance of their vehicles during the summer season to avoid dangerous road accidents.

Fines to be Issued for Driving Vehicles with Weak Tyres

Car tyres have an expiration date and drivers must keep a close eye on the tyres’ condition to avoid any unexpected situations. Worn-out tyres are a major reason behind accidents during summers as they can burst due to extreme heat. Moreover, the air pressure in the tyres must be maintained according to the car owner’s manual instructions. All tyres should be equally inflated as under or over inflation can lead to unequal wear among tyres.

To eliminate the risk of dangerous road accidents, motorist must avoid driving vehicles with weak or unfit tyres. Violating this safety protocol will result in a hefty fine of AED 500 while four black points will be issued against the owner’s driving license.

The newly launched summer road safety campaign serves multiple purposes. It will not only lead to better regulation of traffic on road but will also play an important part in raising awareness about safe driving practices among motorists. With the Safe Traffic Summer campaign, Abu Dhabi police also aims to educate drivers about the prevailing dangers of negligence towards their vehicles. The campaign targets everyone ranging from lorry drivers on highways to lightweight vehicles driven in Abu Dhabi on a daily basis.

Official Statement of Abu Dhabi Police on Weak Tyres

The Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate in the Central Operations Sector, Abu Dhabi Police, Brigadier-General Mohammed Dhahi Al Himiri has issued a warning for driving vehicles with weak tyres. In his statement, he emphasized the importance of discarding expired and worn-out tyres, considering them a major reason behind accidents. Al Himiri also stressed on regular checkup of the car tyres as the air pressure increases during summers.

The tyres of a vehicle absorb excessive heat during the summer season, which can increase the risk of a sudden blowout. However, with regular maintenance and by keeping the tyres well-inflated, the risk of such a dangerous situation can be reduced to a bare minimum. Accidents caused by tyre blowouts can prove to have serious consequences in heavy traffic.

In 2019, the Abu Dhabi Police reported 6,211 cases of motorists driving vehicles with worn-out tyres during summers. The Safe Traffic Summer campaign has been implemented in coordination with Abu Dhabi Ports (Khalifa Port) as an attempt to promote tyre safety and encourage regular car maintenance.
