  • Road deaths in Sharjah decreased from 105 to 83.
  • A decrease was also observed in road deaths caused by run-over accidents. In 2017, 40 deaths were caused by run-over accidents while in 2018, 30 deaths were caused by run-over accidents.
  • A percentage decrease of 14% was observed in road accidents as the number of accidents decreased from 515 in 2017 to 445 in 2018.
  • The overall number of traffic violations committed by motorists decreased from 1.6 million in 2017 to 1.4 million in 2018.

Brigadier Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police appreciated the efforts of traffic authorities in improving the state of road safety in the emirate. He said that authorities are using cutting-edge technologies for traffic monitoring and for acknowledging the complaints of motorists. He added that 11 minutes is the response time target set by the Ministry of Interior to acknowledge the complaints of motorists and traffic authorities achieved a response time of 9.6 minutes in 2018, which is an encouraging development.
