The RAK Police has warned motorists against reckless driving behavior, particularly near major intersections across the emirate. This warning corresponds to the installation of 15 new radars near major intersections in RAK and motorists need to understand that these new radars are incredibly accurate and unforgiving when it comes to catching offenders. The exceptional three-in-one capabilities of the new RAK radars don’t allow any margin for error while you are driving near intersections. These radars can even track even minor traffic violations with an incredible accuracy, which will help authorities in penalizing traffic offenders more efficiently.

These advanced traffic monitoring radars were earlier installed on some of the internal roads in RAK and their excellent performance has now convinced authorities to install 15 more radars on intersections across the emirate.

Which Traffic Violations Can be recorded by New Radars?

The traffic violations that can be recorded with the help of these new radars are sudden swerving, speeding and jumping the red signal. All of these violations are predominantly observed on busy intersections as motorists try to rush through the green traffic light before it turns red. This panicked driving behavior can increase the risk of committing many dangerous violations, which can prove to have deadly consequences. This is why RAK Police has installed 15 new radars on the busy intersections and it is expected to improve the road safety situation.

What Makes the New Radars Standout?

Taking innovation to a new level, the new RAK radars have been equipped with modern-day technologies including an intelligent camera to track and record three traffic violations simultaneously at an incredible pace while maintaining a remarkable accuracy.

A few months back, these radars recorded an over-speeding violation that simply stunned authorities. The radars caught a driver cruising at 204 Km/h, which validated the amazing recording speed of these radars. Additionally, the radars assisted authorities in issuing speeding tickets to 1,515 drivers who committed speeding violations on roads that had a speed limit of 60 Km/h. The striking versatility of the new radars has certainly raised the traffic monitoring standards of the RAK Police.

Official Statement

Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, expressed high hopes of the new radars and said that the installation of 15 new radars is in line with the vision of the RAK Police to reduce dangerous road accidents by discouraging motorists from committing traffic violations. He was of the view that new radars with multitasking capabilities will allow traffic authorities to control the flow of traffic more efficiently and will also make motorists more alert of their driving approach. He added that the authorities will place signboards ahead of the intersections to inform motorists about the installation of new radars so that they can avoid committing traffic violations proactively.

Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, Director General of the Central Operations Department, RAK Police suggested that driving above the speed limit can prove to have deadly consequences as the speed limit for a particular road is designed by carefully examining a number of critical factors and violating the speed limits can put lives of many commuters at risk. He asked motorists to be careful and avoid driving above the speed limits of a road.

Penalties for Traffic Violations that can be recorded by New Radars in RAK

Motorists must be aware of the traffic penalties that they can face if they get caught by the new radars for committing a dangerous traffic violation.  As the new radars can monitor and record three dangerous traffic violations at the same time, here are the penalties that traffic offenders can face for committing these violations:

  • A fine of AED 1,000 and 4 black points issued against the offender’s driving license for poor lane discipline.
  • A fine of AED 1,000, 12 black points and confiscation of the vehicle for 30 days if a driver jumps the red signal.
  • For speeding, a new criterion was designed in the newly amended traffic law that was implemented on July 1, 2017, in the UAE. According to this law, the speeding violations will be penalized in an incremental order based on speeding committed above the speed limit of a road.

The table below provides the details for the speeding penalties according to the new traffic law:

How to Avoid Traffic Penalties?

Motorists have to gradually develop a safe driving approach in order to avoid traffic penalties in RAK. Motorists must not ignore the importance of driving safely as a careless driving approach near intersections often results in multiple traffic violations when a motorist tries to cross the intersection before the signal turns red. Motorists must know that the new radars in RAK can record even the smallest of driving mistakes and the only way to avoid traffic penalties is by being more considerate of other commuters and adopting a defensive driving style.
