A media event in the UAE has confirmed that the brand new Nissan Pathfinder has been released. The launch party witnessed the 2013 edition of the car unveiled properly for customers and critics to see. As one of the leading names in the SUV industry and the car market, it has a lot to live up to if it wants to secure the same success as its predecessors and competitors.

The franchise has gone for a different look this time around, as they lose the ‘body on frame’ approach and have, instead, opted for more length. The reason being for this was after some deep evaluation of competing brands. For example, Toyota has seen more success over Nissan – for one simple reason. The Japanese giants chose to focus less on their cars’ ability to off road. Instead, they chose to focus more on capabilities on it. This might be the smarter choice, because even though SUVs are not designed so much for this, most drivers only buy them for domestic use. This conclusion implies that Nissan are now going to make sure all their efforts are directed towards factors such as steering, comfort and general interior, rather than the outside of the car.

With regards to space, the 2013 Pathfinder will have 7 seats, so you can really see where the added length went. This also fits in perfectly with their plan to market towards domestic users, as a lot of consumers buy these cars due to large families. The car also possesses the ability to switch from front wheel drive to all wheel drive. Meaning it is still able to switch depending on the optimum surface. So it can still go off road and perform to a decent standard. Another interesting feature is the selector, which apart from the aforementioned options, also give you an ‘auto’ option. This is great for beginners, or those who haven’t owned an SUV before and don’t know when to swap over. So until you get to grips with things the car will do all the work for you!

What was Nissan thinking when they built the last Pathfinder on a slightly shorter version of the Titan pick-up’s frame? With its optional 5.6-litre V8, rugged look

The 2013 Pathfinder wields a mighty 254 hp 3.5 litre V6, making it a powerhouse on the roads. This will also help out if the customer is carrying a heavy load of shopping, or a large number of people in the back.

Nissan have also included a few gadgets to push their SUV ahead of the competition. There are no keys for ignition, it’s a push-to-start system. It also includes the abilities to play all sorts of media formats including DVDs and MP3 files, as well as an HDD audio system that is pushed out through 6 high quality speakers around the vehicle. It also comes fully equipped with a Bluetooth phone.

As for safety, the 2013 Pathfinder has 6 air bags. This will ensure maximum precautionary steps taken to make sure no harm is done to any passengers.  The chairs themselves are also able to recline to an array of angles, which is great if anyone has a bad back or wishes to take a nap during the journey.
