A new traffic system has been introduced in the UAE by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT) to control traffic congestions. The new system operates with vehicle-counting sensors and traffic lights. It will restrict the extra vehicles entering the highway which can cause traffic congestion. These vehicles will have to stop and wait for the signal to turn green. Currently, the new system of traffic signals has been installed on main roads of Abu Dhabi.

Installation of New Traffic System on Abu Dhabi Roads

The new smart traffic system is equipped with latest technological tools. It uses sensors and high-resolution cameras to count the number of vehicles on the road and operate traffic signals accordingly. Initially, the new system is installed at highways and busy roads of Abu Dhabi. Specifically, it is set up at Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street where traffic congestions had been a consistent worry for motorists. The traffic signal is installed at the intersection of the Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan road with Shaikha Salama Bin Butti road.

Impact of the New Traffic System

The new system is set to manage the traffic flow and control the number of vehicles passing along the highway and other busy roads at a given point of time. The radars in the new system will count the number of allowable vehicles and will turn the traffic signal red to restrict other vehicles from entering a specific road once the limit is reached. The yellow light will blink to alert drivers to get prepared for entering the highway carefully.

The traffic authorities have requested motorists to cooperate in a nice manner for the best implementation of the newly introduced system. The new system is set to benefit all road users and reduce traffic jams on Abu Dhabi roads.
