Traffic authorities have announced a change in speed limits for multiple roads in Sharjah. Obeying the speed limit of a road is essential as motorists can face hefty fines and other strict penalties for violating the speed limits. According to the new announcement, the speed limit on all roads in Sharjah Kalba City has been changed.

New Speed limit on Roads in Sharjah Kalba City

Lt. Col Abdullah Al Yamahi, Director of Traffic and Patrols at Eastern Region Police Station announced the new speed limit and said that the new speed limit will be implemented on all Sharjah Kalba City roads. The new speed limit is 80 Km/h while motorists will continue to avail the grace speed of 20 Km/h. According to Lt. Col Abdullah Al Yamahi, the speed limit will also be changed on the Wadi Al Helu Road and the new ring road. Wadi Al Helu Road is the road that links the Mleiha Street with the eastern region while the new ring road has recently opened, which makes the speed limit change on these roads a significant development.

Why the Speed Limit has been changed?

Lt. Col Abdullah Al Yamahi explained that the change in speed limit is part of the efforts made by authorities to achieve the road safety objectives in Sharjah. Speeding is a major traffic violation in the UAE and authorities have tried to discourage motorists from committing speeding violations by changing the speed limits of multiple roads and by introducing heavy speeding fines in the newly amended traffic law.

Whenever speed limit is changed for any road, authorities try to make motorists aware of it so that they don’t commit a traffic violation unintentionally. Recently, roads in Dubai were painted red by the Road and Transport Authority in order to highlight a change in speed limits. These unique initiatives are of immense importance as they don’t just raise awareness, but also encourage the motorists to comply with the rules.
