In a major new development, Abu Dhabi Police has launched a “Smart Vehicle Impounding Service” for the well-being and convenience of motorists. This new initiative will provide motorists with an opportunity to have the custody of their vehicles during the impounding period and will also allow them to use their vehicles by paying an additional fee. Motorists will be allowed to park their vehicles at their places of choice rather than the impoundment yard under the new initiative. The guidelines to apply for the custody of impounded vehicles have been issued by the Abu Dhabi Police.

Details of the New Vehicle Impounding Service in Abu Dhabi

The new vehicle impounding service in Abu Dhabi will cater to the needs of motorists and will allow them to use their vehicles during the impounding period. Motorists will also be able to avail the facility of parking their vehicles in places of their choice instead of the impounding yard.

Authorities have announced that motorists can use the smart vehicle impounding service only after paying the fines for traffic violations they were booked for. After paying the fines, motorists can keep the impounded vehicles in their custody and use them by paying an additional fee of AED 15 per day till the end of the impounding period.

Documents Required to Avail the New Service

Motorists need to submit the required documents (vehicle registration license and Emirates ID of the vehicle owner) to avail the new smart impounding service. After the completion of the process, a smart booking device will be installed on the cars and motorists will need to park their vehicles at the specified location before 12:00 AM that very day. At the end of the impounding period, motorists can take back the smart booking device to one of the service centres.

Official Statement

According to Abu Dhabi Police, the new smart vehicle impounding service has been launched for the well-being and convenience of motorists. Authorities have, however, advised motorists not to commit traffic violations that can lead to vehicle impoundment. An additional fee will have to be paid by the motorists for using a vehicle during the impounding period, which will increase the financial burden on them. Motorists can avoid such a situation by following traffic rules and by complying with the road safety practices.

Common Traffic Violations that Can Lead to Vehicle Impoundment

Authorities have advised motorists to avoid dangerous traffic violations that can lead to the impoundment of their vehicles. Motorists will have to face the penalty of vehicle impoundment if they are booked for the following traffic violations:

Over-speeding

Violating the speed limit of a road by 80 Km/h will result in impoundment of a vehicle for 60 days.

Jumping the Red Signal

Jumping the red signal will result in impoundment of a vehicle for 30 days.

Reckless Driving

A vehicle can be confiscated for a period of 60 days if motorists are booked for reckless driving.

Endangering the Lives of Others

Putting the lives of other commuters at a risk will result in vehicle impoundment for 60 days.

Unlawful Car Engine Modifications

For unlawful car engine modifications, the vehicle of a motorist will be impounded for a period of 30 days.

Driving a Vehicle Without Number Plates

For this violation, the vehicle involved in the offence will be confiscated for 90 days.

Bottom-line

Motorists in Abu Dhabi can benefit from the new smart vehicle impounding service to have custody of their impounded vehicles. This service will make life easier for motorists who will be able to use their vehicles during the impounding period. However, it will also increase their financial worries of motorists on a tight budget as they will have to pay an additional fee for using their vehicles during the impounding period. Motorists can easily avoid serious traffic penalties including vehicle impoundment by adopting a defensive driving approach and by following the traffic rules.
