Driving in Ramadan can test the patience and driving stamina of drivers as the energy levels go down and instances of drowsiness while driving increase. A majority of drivers feel the pressure of driving while fasting because of hot and humid conditions of the UAE weather and also because of the reckless driving of a few motorists who try to rush towards their pre-scheduled Iftar dinners and parties while disturbing the flow of traffic on the road.

A new research report has highlighted the days of the week and times of the day when the maximum number of accidents were recorded in 2016’s Ramadan in the UAE. This study is of significant importance as it can help authorities implement proactive measures and launch campaigns for better awareness about the dangers of reckless driving in Ramadan.

Inferences Derived from the New Research

The leading cause behind increased road accidents in Ramadan is the hassled and reckless driving by motorists. Motorists with their Iftar parties pre-scheduled, try to drive too fast in order to reach their destinations on time which causes serious traffic problems. This practice clearly disturbs the flow of traffic and is a major reason for massive road congestions in Ramadan. These road congestions add to the frustration of motorists which ultimately leads to dangerous road situations.

What Motorists must do to Avoid Dangerous Road Situations in Ramadan?

Motorists must plan their road trips carefully in Ramadan and should always allow themselves some extra time to reach their destinations without driving too fast. Other than that, motorists should also manage their rest and sleep hours properly in Ramadan to avoid drowsiness while driving which becomes a reason for road accidents in the morning hours. Additionally, motorists should be extra careful when driving on the day and timings that are prone to accidents as revealed by the research. The research results are beneficial for the traffic authorities and the UAE’s motorists as they clearly identify the day of the week as well as the time of the day when the probability of having an accident increases.
