New Radars in Dubai to Monitor Wrong U-turns and Poor Overtaking

New Radars will be installed in Dubai to catch traffic violations like wrong U-turns and poor overtaking.  Distracted driving by careless drivers is a major reason for road accidents in Dubai. Mostly, the drivers commit traffic violations when they are using their mobile phone while driving. This is when they commit violations like taking wrong U-turns and improper overtaking. In order to catch such violations, Dubai Police has planned to set new radars at some important intersections in Dubai.

More Fines Suggested for Using Mobile Phone while Driving

With the new radars, to be set in Dubai, the recommendations have also been made to increase the fines for using the mobile phone while driving. At present, the penalties for using the mobile phone while driving are Dh200 fine and four black points against the license of the driver. Using the mobile phone while driving is one of the primary reasons for major road accidents in Dubai and this is why the authorities are planning to increase the penalties for this serious offence.

Official Statement on the New Radars

The new and advanced radars will be set at all the important intersections and some of these radars have already been installed at Damascus Street, Haleb Street and few other areas of Dubai. The Director of General Department of Traffic, Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said that the Police have recorded a number of dangerous traffic violations recently, most of which included wrong turns and poor overtaking. He said that the new radars will help to reduce such violations.

How the New Radars Work

According to the officials, the new radars will perform in a more efficient way than the existing radars and will catch the violations better. These radars will instantly send an SMS to the control room whenever a traffic violation gets recorded by them. These radars will have the capability to record a traffic violation from a fair distance and will be able to record a video in just 10 seconds. The new radars will also be more efficient in recording red signal violations.
