New Incentive Program Encourages the Buying of Electric Vehicles in the UAE

With green car technologies transforming the automotive industry of the UAE, the demand for electric cars is also increasing day by day. Green Car Technology is all about increasing the production of electric and hybrid cars which are an eco-friendly alternative to the combustion engine vehicles. Highlights from the Launch Event of the New Incentive Program

The New Incentive Program for buying electric cars was launched on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, and the announcement of new Incentives Program was made by the Minister of Energy in the UAE. The Incentive Program included plans for encouraging people to buy electric cars with the launch of different initiatives that exclusively benefit the electric car buyers. The honorable Minister of Energy launched different initiatives like green bank loans, green insurance plans and green registration for electric cars in the UAE as part of the new Incentive Program. The details of all these plans are yet to be disclosed.

Short and Long Term Eco-Friendly Objectives were Announced

Along with the announcement of incentives for electric car buyers, few short and long term objectives were also announced by the Energy Minister. These objectives mainly revolved around increasing the number of electric cars in the UAE. In line with the short-term objective, electric cars will be added up to 10% in the fleets of federal agencies and ministries. The long-term plan in this regard will focus on adding electric vehicles to the Government fleets by up to 20%.

Agreements were signed for a Greener UAE

A total of 10 agreements were signed in order to make the UAE greener by opting for electric vehicles in the near future. Five of these agreements were signed by the Minister of Energy while the other five were signed by the Emirates Transport in Abu Dhabi.

Tesla, Renault and BMW Displayed their Vehicles at the Event

One of the major highlights of the event was the presence of three popular electric car manufacturers, Tesla, Renault and BMW. Not only the electric vehicles of these electric car manufacturing giants were displayed at the event, but many important announcements were also made about the entry of new electric vehicles into the UAE car market. Plans for setting new charging stations across the UAE were also discussed in the event.

  1. Renault announced to launch its new electric car in the UAE in September.
  2. Tesla announced the opening of its service center in Dubai in July.
  3. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla signed a deal with RTA Dubai, according to which Tesla will deliver 200 electric vehicles to RTA which will be fitted with autonomous driving technologies and several other important components. As per this deal, RTA will buy Model X and Model S vehicles from Tesla and add it to the Dubai Taxi Corporation’s Limousine Fleet. This deal with Tesla is part of the Dubai Smart Autonomous Mobility Strategy which aims to make 25% of all journeys in Dubai autonomous by 2030.

  7. RTA in Dubai has a green points system which awards the motorists who use electric vehicles for commuting. Green points are added to the account of motorists through the RTA mobile app for driving vehicles which don’t emit harmful gases.

The Minister of Energy in the UAE stated that people in the UAE deserved better commute options like in other developed parts of the world, as the cities of the UAE are developing at a rapid pace and becoming luxurious at the same time.
