Wilhelm Karmann GmbH – or simply Karmann – was one of the largest independent motor vehicle manufacturing companies in Germany, specially known for its products developed for Volkswagen. Two of the most famous vehicles developed by Karmann are Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet and the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia developed between 1955 and 1974.

As a tribute to Karmann, Volkswagen recently announced the new Golf Cabriolet Karmann, a special edition of its open top vehicle named after the legendary auto manufacturer Wilhelm Karmann GmBH which is now on sale at car market for €27,275 — about $37,000 at the current exchange rates.

The special edition of ‘Golf Cabriolet’ has additional chrome trim and 17-inch Porto-style alloy wheels. The cabin boasts two-tone sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gray contrast stitching. The model also has brushed aluminum / dark gray trim, chrome accents and Karmann branded sill plates. Other highlights include a premium audio system, a wind deflector and a park distance warning system.

Performance specifications were not released but Volkswagen confirmed the model will be available with a variety of engines that have outputs ranging from 105 HP (77 kW) to 160 HP (118 kW). The entry-level Golf Cabriolet Karmann is powered by a 1.2-liter TSI engine with 105 HP, while the range-topping version has a 1.4-liter TSI with 160 HP under the hood.

Golf Cabriolet Karmann special edition can already be ordered at a starting price in Germany of 27,275 euros. The new 2014 Golf Cabriolet Karmann comes with the Karmann logo on the front fenders, 17-inch Porto alloy wheels, but also chrome surrounds on the front fog lamps and air intake grilles. Inside, the center panels of the front seats are upholstered in black Alcantara, while the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake grip are wrapped in high quality leather and fitted with gray stitching. Moreover, a chromed trim is found on the cockpit, while dark gray door inlays in brushed aluminum round off the stylish overall look. The 2014 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet Karmann comes as standard with Park Pilot, multifunction display “Premium”, Radio RCD 210, center armrest with storage, wind deflector and door sill plates with the inscription “Karmann”.
