GMC unveils new generation of Canyon in UAE

In late 2013, a Colorado mid-sized pickup was revealed by Chevrolet. Now, Chevrolet’s luxury cousin GMC has followed behind by revealing a Canyon pickup which is a little more upscale. Unveiled on January 11, 2014 at the 2014 Detroit Auto show, Canyon is basically a rebadged Colorado. It has a newer front end and a nicer kit. The greatest noticeable difference between the Canyon and the Colorado is the up front. Rest of truck is clearly similar to Colorado except when you look at its prominent square nose. It is as exciting as Colorado, if not more.

Take a closer look at the picture. It might look like GMC Sierra 1500 that you’re looking at.  The look of the car could easily fool anybody into thinking that it is. That is how close and similar in appearance the 2015 GMC Canyon and the larger Sierra 1500 are. We can nickname it the Sierra 1000 but it doesn’t seem right. So, we will stay with 2015 GMC Canyon.

The 2015 Canyon by GMC features a North American-spec frame similar to that of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. It shares bits of the international GMI700 platform, the full-size K2XX architecture in its structural design.

Design

On the first look, one can know that Canyon has adopted the Sierra’s look of a squared nose, however it’s small version. GMC Canyon uses LED accents below and above the projector-beam headlights as well as a three-section grille. The truck rides on a completely boxed frame. It is available with a six foot-bed in either an extended cab or a crew cab. There is no option for a regular cab anymore. It has a leaf-spring rear and a coil-over suspension.

Interior

The interior of GMC Canyon looks quite flashy. The dash is available with stitched leather and the steering is electric. Another amazing thing about Canyon is that it will be high on technology. There will be WiFi, OnStar 4G LTE Connectivity and other things like rear-view camera, forward collision alert and lane departure warning, USB inputs and an eight-inch colored touch screen. These are all amazingly high-tech specs for any car.

A smartphone app known as “RemoteLink” will also allow owners to flash lights, unlock and start their Canyon. An off-road package of All-Terrain is also there with a unique setup. What is more interesting that there also exists a “Teen-Driver” system in GMC Canyon which has a parent-configurable speed warning! It also mutes the radio automatically when any of the front seat belts is unfastened.

All of this is absolutely at par with how GMC’s promises of Canyon having a number of lifestyle-supporting accessories and diverse collection of other works. You can check the car evaluation here.

Engine

Under its hood, the 2015 GMC Canyon features a 2.5L four cylinder and 3.6L six cylinder engine. In the 2016 model, joining the arsenal will be 2.8L Duramax diesel engine. This will have a great impact on the Canyon’s fuel and power efficiency.

Safety Features

There are six standard airbags along with head curtain side airbags that are particularly designed to minimize the occupant ejection risk in case there is a crash.
