General Motors Company announced for delivery of 9,714,652 vehicles worldwide during 2013 with a growing rate up to 4 % from 2012 to continue to make progress on the Volkswagen Group which announced the delivery of 9.7 million units around the world but the gap between them has narrowed considerably after the superiority of Volkswagen’s performance in the China market which is considered the largest market globally. Toyota has not been revealed yet its reports about the sales but it is expected that its sales will maintain its lead as the largest car producer in the world.

Compared with 2012, the sales of Volkswagen Group rose by 5 % in 2013 where the figures include sales of heavy-duty truck production sector represented by the “MAN” and “Scania” brands as well as the sales brand of Porsche starting in August 2012. Volkswagen Company wants to become the largest producer of cars by 2018 but its statement about the sales of the company in 2013 did not carry precise figures.

Toyota had announced last October for its production after the end of the third quarter of 2013 amounted to 7.41 million units, and the Toyota Company overtook the General Motors Company with difference of 160 thousand units and it is expected to maintain this lead especially that the policies of the Japanese Prime Minister “Shinzo Abe” has contributed to strengthening the performance of the Japanese companies through the application of economic strategies aimed to reduce the value of the yen in order to make the Japanese products more competitive globally.

In 2011, Toyota lost its position as the largest producer of cars in favor of General Motors Company after the Japan exposure a disaster of the devastating earthquake and its subsequent such as the tsunami, huge flooding in Thailand which is one of its large production centers but it has regained its status in 2012 and it is expected to maintain this position in 2013.

The China market represents a main competition square between General Motors and Volkswagen companies. In 2013, General Motors Company lost its position as the largest seller of cars in China after it has been in this location for eight consecutive years and Volkswagen Company became the largest seller with increase in sales by up to 16 % that reached to 3.27 million units compared with increase in sales by up to 11 % that reached to 3.16 million units for General Motors Company.

There is something that helped General Motors Company to achieve a strong performance in the U.S. market during 2013 which is providing 18 new cars where this contributed to attract more customers.
