As the summer heat approaches, most sports in the UAE are looking forward to their hiatus. However, there is no rest for the motorsport community as preparations are already underway for next season. The Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) recently met with their affiliated sporting clubs to discuss and finalize the sporting calendar for the 2012-13 season, and it promises to be the biggest season of motorsport the UAE has ever seen.
Representatives of Yas Marina Circuit, Dubai Autodrome, Al Ain Raceway and the Emirates Motorsport Federation (EMSF), met with ATCUAE Sporting Director Ronan Morgan to agree with the dates for all disciplines of the sport, including rally, circuit racing, karting, drag, and motocross. Mr. Morgan commented “It’s great to see the enthusiasm of our clubs and promoters who are all working hard to develop the sport in the UAE by holding more events. It is also encouraging that the majority of the events are home grown within the UAE, proving that we have great resources and knowledge within our sporting community.”
One highlight of the new calendar is two back-to-back rounds of the UAE Rotax Max Challenge to be held at Yas Marina Circuit, the first time in the world that a karting race has been held on the same tarmac as a Formula One Grand Prix. This will bring the number of circuits hosting RMC up to four in total, alongside championship promoters Al Ain Raceway, the Dubai Kartdrome, and Al Forsan Sports Club.
