Although many teams from UAE schools participating at the World Robots Olympiad did not make it to the finals, their efforts and innovations are still something to be mentioned. These teams did go through a lot of hard work with their teachers to prepare for the participation in this Olympiad, the thing that gives them great advantage and experience not to mention a motive to go through similar experiences again in the future.
Among the schools which participated in this event and did not make it to the finals but still scored high in the western region was Alshumookh School, the school which participated along with other Emirati schools among the open category of the competition. During this experience, Students entered the competition with an invention of a robotic solution that can make every day life much easier.
Alshumookh School participated in the competition with 4 teams. Each one of those teams contained 3 female students between the age of 16 and 17 and the reason for this large number of participants from Alshumookh School is the great desire and enthusiasm of its students to be part of this event.
One of the teams from Alshumookh school decided to build auto parking robot, a robot that will find free parking spot and park the car automatically. Amal Mohammad, one of the team members, explains the idea by saying: “I came up with an idea with my friends to create a robot that is in the form of a device that can be mounted in car. Once you activate the robot, it will automatically take control of the driving system and find a free spot to park your car then turn it off and lock it. Our aim was to build this system as an internal component of the car but we lack the financial and expertise factors to do so, so we ended up creating a simulative model for a parking lot and activating our robot so it can start searching for a free spot and then park in it.”
Looking at this great idea from these amazing students, we can see the huge technological potentials that will come in the automotives field. The bright thing here is that the team succeeded in building their robot, and although they aspired to make greater integration and presentation, the idea itself can be a very powerful factor when it comes to their future success in life.
