These electric cars need to be charged always hence the creation of charging stations in Dubai which will mostly be installed at petrol stations. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) registered the first ‘green charger’ user for electric vehicles. This smart initiative is to take two phases: the first one is to build over 100 charging station in this year and secondly is to install charging stations of three different types namely: fast-charging, medium-charging and home-charging stations throughout the city.

The period the car takes to fully charge depends on the type of the electric cars and the battery capacity. Medium charging stations will be located in malls, parks and offices with cars taking two hours to fully charge while home-charging stations with get a car battery fully charged in six hours. Three smart initiatives have been launched to support the campaign including Shams Dubai to connect solar energy in buildings, smart applications and smart meters, green charger for infrastructure and electric vehicle charging stations.

This will aid in the achievement of the UAE vision of making Dubai a smart, integrated and connected city where environmental components are clean, healthy and sustainable.it will also bring happiness to residents in Dubai due to the its contribution to reducing the carbon footprint and driving the sustainable development of their city.
