The Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) has completed a three-day training seminar for the first time in Egypt to assist its FIA counterpart with the development of an improved motor sport infrastructure.

A team from the club’s Motorsport Knowledge Institute (MKI) conducted the course on safety training for rally and karting officials, competitors and spectators, in the country’s capital Cairo from 14 to 16 June.

More than 60 volunteers and officials of the Automobile & Touring Club of Egypt (ATCE), the country’s governing body for motor sport, took part in the programme, which was delivered by a six-strong team from the MKI, led by Ahmed Ben Sulayem.

The intensive course included organizational structure of different motor sport events, roles and responsibilities of officials, safety procedures and regulations that have to be enforced to keep officials, spectators and competitors safe.

“The interaction with the ATCE officials was outstanding and we certainly felt the need for knowledge and new skills,” said Sulayem. “The information kits in both English and Arabic that were handed out will help officials and volunteers refresh their knowledge before big events as well as to train new officials.”

The MKI was established by ATCUAE President, Dr. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, following the club’s elevation to the status of FIA Institute approved Regional Training Provider in 2011.

Dr. Ben Sulayem said: “We are very proud to have successfully delivered for the first time an important safety training programme for our Egyptian counterparts. With such an enthusiastic young population, the country has huge potential to develop its motor sport infrastructure and to make it safer for all involved.

“We have been very impressed with the professionalism and commitment of the ATCE officials who took part and we look forward to working with them further to build on our learning exchange programmes and promoting motor sport safety.”

As one of only four national motoring authorities worldwide entrusted to deliver motor sport training programmes on behalf of the FIA, the MKI continues to make significant strides in spreading motor sport expertise, training, research and education on a global level, delivering dozens of training programmes annually to national sport authorities in the Middle East, Africa, South America, and Eastern Europe.

The Motorsport Knowledge Institute will continue its international training projects throughout the coming summer months, with upcoming projects in Albania, Ukraine, and Nicaragua all scheduled, and more to come later in the year.
