Almost 7,000 luxury cars in the UAE are thought to have been affected by a vehicle recall caused by concerns over their power-braking system.
Last week, the BMW Group announced a worldwide recall of its eight- and 12-cylinder BMW 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars models produced between July 2001 and November 2009.
The company confirmed on Wednesday that 6,296 BMW and 485 Rolls-Royce vehicles could be affected in the UAE.
Local importers and dealers have started to contact customers and request a vehicle check-up. For those cars that have been affected, BMW Group said the fault correction would take between one and four hours.
It said there would be no cost to the consumer.
”The safety of our customers is paramount to us. We will continue to work closely with our importers to ensure a smooth and seamless execution of this service campaign,” said Phil Horton, managing director of BMW Group Middle East.
A separate Rolls-Royce release indicated that no Ghost models had been affected.
“None of our Rolls-Royce customers have reported any problems, especially that this issue concerns older vehicles with a high mileage,” said the statement.
“We believe it is highly unlikely that Rolls-Royce customers will be affected, but as a responsible manufacturer of luxury vehicles it is certainly appropriate that we react to the campaign by our parent, BMW Group, to recall these cars and ensure our customers’ vehicles are properly checked and re-worked at their convenience. It is also worth stating that no Ghost models are affected by this campaign.”
