BMW Recalls Over 1.6 Million 3-Series

Renowned German auto maker has recalled more than 1.6 million of its 3 Series model due to potential air bag defects that could cause injury to the occupants of the automobiles. BMW AG, one of the many car makers that depend on Takata Corp for their air bags, has not been spared of the scourge of the defective air bags.

Many people consider the safety features of the vehicle they intend to buy and rank them very highly when assessing car value. BMW is as such recalling the vehicles amid fears over the safety of air bags in the vehicles which can greatly bring down the car valuation of the model.

The company has decided to recall all the cars that came of the production line in the years stretching from May 1999 to August 2006. Further recalls by safety regulators in the United States forced the car maker to bring in more of its units and have the passenger side air bags replaced. The air bags have an inflator that could overly explode in its mechanism to inflate the air bag thus sending pieces of metal flying into the cabin putting the lives of the occupants at peril.

Such a phenomenon is surely nerve wracking in theory and goes overboard in the real world. It is time to sell your ride.
