H.H Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan minister of higher education and scientific research of UAE signed a memorandum of understanding considered to be the first of its kind in the country with ATCUAE and university of Ulster. This agreement will allow college students, under grad and post grad, to obtain certificates, higher diplomas, masters and PhD’s in sports management. This step goes in parallel with the UAE vision to further enhance scientific research and the development of UAE nationals in all aspects of education following international best practice modules.
This agreement is also considered to be a tool to encourage all sports clubs to grow their abilities in all aspects of sports. In this regards, president of ATCUAE and Vice President of FiA said “I would like to thank H.H Sheikh Nahayan for his support which indicated the effectiveness of his vision to improve higher education in all majors and fields. This agreement is the first of its kind in the UAE, and it will have a tremendous added value towards sports investment and will give the opportunity to all those engaged in sports in UAE to advance in their profession. This agreement is not limited to motor sports alone but to all sports, that’s why I encourage all sporting clubs and authorities to participate in this academic program.”
The agreement was signed by H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor, Higher Colleges of Technology; Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATC–UAE); and Professor Richard Barnett, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ulster. Under the terms of the agreement the parties will investigate future opportunities in relation to a proposed sports management degree, which will include educational and research opportunities for students and faculty across both institutions.
Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology said it was pleasing to be working closely with the Automobile & Touring Club and the University of Ulster to investigate the possibility of a new sports management degree; “A cornerstone of the Higher Colleges of Technology philosophy is the development of innovation in education, ensuring our students will have the skills of teamwork, adaptability, global awareness, and analytical thinking so that they make important contributions to the United Arab Emirates,” Dr Kamali said. “It is pleasing to know that together we are investigating ways to make a new degree for sports-minded students a reality and therefore helping to develop life-long learning skills necessary to success in a fast changing world.”
