The best and latest surveillance cameras are currently being used on Sharjah roads. The step of installing the newly advanced cameras comes as part of the Sharjah Police’s ambitious project titled “Sharjah is a safe city”.
Details about the project were unveiled recently during a meeting chaired by Major-General Humaid Mohamed Al Hadidi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police; Brigadier Dr Abduallah Saeed Sahoo, Director of the Sharjah Residency and Naturalization Department; and Colonel Abdalla Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Civil Defense.
Various issues pertaining to the emirate’s safety and security and ways of overcoming various challenges were discussed during the meeting.
To ensure the safety of the emirate, surveillance cameras of high international standards and specifications are used, including fixed cameras to record traffic movement on important roads, in addition to roaming cameras that can magnify the pictures and panoramic cameras that have the ability of rotating 360 degrees for better coverage of an area.
These cameras are connected to the Sharjah Police’s operations room and help in giving regular updates about the road safety and flow of traffic through the implementation of the latest communication methods, including the Internet protocol connect and the 3G LTE.
The operations room will also be renovated and equipped with latest data centers that can guarantee efficient reception, display, storage and protection of data.
It’s worth mentioning that these cameras will be used in various fields including its ability to read cars’ plate numbers and monitoring traffic flow; and police patrols will also be equipped with these cameras.
Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Ahmed Bu Hindi, Director of the Electronic and Communication Department, said the ‘Sharjah is safe city’ project will positively contribute to achieving the objectives of the police in ensuring the safety of the emirate by using the latest techniques in the field of security.
