Fatal road accidents in Abu Dhabi and all over the UAE claimed many lives in 2016. One of the primary reasons for such accidents was overtaking from the right. The Police and traffic authorities in Abu Dhabi have stressed upon the importance of overtaking from left and using indicators when changing lanes to overtake. The authorities have also initiated a traffic awareness campaign named, “Your Life is more important” form 23rd of January in Abu Dhabi. The new campaign will spread awareness to the masses about safe driving.

Fines Issued in 2016 for Overtaking from the Right
In Abu Dhabi, overtaking from the right remained as one of the leading traffic violations in 2016. There were 3,116 fines issued for overtaking in the emirate and many of the violations led to dangerous incidents.
The Director General of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate in Abu Dhabi Police, Colonel Mohammad Dahi Al Humeri made it clear that motorists will need to be careful when overtaking as the unprecedented rise in such violations in 2016 was unacceptable. He asked the motorists to pay heed to the advice from the authorities and follow road safety principles while overtaking especially. He asked the motorists to always overtake from the left and make use of the indicators while doing so.

Penalties for Overtaking from the Right in Abu Dhabi
Overtaking from the right is a big concern in the Abu Dhabi and has proved to be fatal at times. With 3,116 fines issued for the same violation in 2016, it’s high time for authorities to take actions and stop this from happening. Subsequently, an announcement has been made to strengthen the monitoring of the roads and find out offenders in a more effective way.
