The Popularity of Classic Cars in the UAE

We know that with the massive influx of cash flow into and within the UAE that the popularity of all kinds of cars has grown drastically over the past few decades. The newest appeal is found in super-fast supercars (Maserati, Bugatti, Lamborghini) and the best of the best luxury vehicles (Rolls-Royce, Aston-Martin, Bentley).  However, there is also quite a market and an interest for the good old classic cars of the mid-20th century. But what is considered a classic car in the UAE is interesting because it is mainly still the same type of car as now, except a little bit older.

The 5th annual Emirates Classic Car Festival took place in March of 2013 and, organized by Emaar Properties along with both the UAE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development and the Automobile and Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates (ACTUAE), was quite an event. Held on the Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, alongside the Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building) in central Dubai. As it is always a much-awaited event among locals and tourists, the festival displayed many different models of classic cars and motorcycles. Some of the cars are voted on and scored based on various characteristics such as original color, cleanliness, historical value, originality and aesthetics.

In 2014, we will see the 6th Emirates Classic Car Festival, to be held from February 27 to March 3, which will once again consist of quite an impressive group of classic cars and motorcycles. There will be over 140 different automobiles in this festival, which is of course one of the most highlighted events of the year in Downtown Dubai.

A few of the most popular models showcased in past festivals were a 1933 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, the 1970 Mercedes 280 SE Coupe, the 1954 Cadillac Coup DeVille, and the 1973 Jaguar E Type.

Downtown Dubai has been the hosting location for this festival since the very first because it is such an attractive and meaningful area within Dubai, UAE. This particular area has seen 60 million visitors and has a lot of the “world’s most” right in one place: the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa; the world’s tallest performing fountain, The Dubai Fountain; and the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination, The Dubai Mall. In addition, this area is filled with luxury hotels, homes and business offices, making it one of the most prestigious overall communities.
