Abu Dhabi to build the first green road in the Middle East

Being in the running for the up to date trends, the Department of Transport (DoT) of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has declared that it is paving the way to design and setup of the first environmentally friendly road in the Middle East.
According to the Department of Transport (DoT) plans and strategies, this project is scheduled to set off in the first quarter of 2015. In which, the concerned managers declared that this pilot project that would take five kilometers will tie in with the existing Abu Dhabi to Dubai Main Road (E11) and the new main road between the seven emirates (E311).

In consonance with their views and perspectives, the Department added that the project will be the face for futuristic roads in Abu Dhabi, and will bolster the highest sustainable practices and systems adopted all over the world such as the advanced technologies and solutions regarding the global warming and other things else.

These practices include the use of technologies to set down and reduce carbon emissions and produce environmentally friendly constructing materials such as recycled asphalt, concrete aggregates and scrap rubber tires.

As well as, renewable energy will be used for lighting, while the building materials will ensure the highest levels of safety for vehicles, coming forth and resulting in lower maintenance and running costs.

This project is considered as the one of the strategic initiatives taken by the Department of Transport (DoT) and settled with the department’s Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP) in order to attain its priorities by developing world-class and integrated road networks that addresses the current and future needs of the Capital while setting an example of environment friendly projects, which is its ultimate is to improve and expand the highways.

This plan has been preceded by several studies to ensure and guarantee the best methods and techniques to be utilized.

Furthermore, the Department which is collaborating with the Urban Planning Council (UPC), the Estidama initiative, the Environment Agency and Masdar, has pointed out that it is worthy to mention that traffic will not be affected negatively during the work with the reason implied back to several planned detours and turns.

They concluded saying that once the work is over and well completed, the department will evaluate, analyze and use the outcomes in order to improve the set guidelines and create a rating system for future to come implementation of environmentally friendly roads throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
