Nissan has revealed an eye-catching image of the next Qashqai, which is the much anticipated second-generation version of its crossover. The new ground-breaking Qashqai is expected to be in markets in in 2014.

The real thing is set to be unveiled on Thursday 7 November 2013, and Nissan is promising the new Qashqai will “redefine the crossover sector and set new standard across the board.”

The firm describes the new Qashqai as the most significant car in its modern history, the original version having defined an entirely new sector of the marketplace.

If the Qashqai didn’t strictly invent the crossover concept, it certainly made it popular beyond even Nissan’s wildest dreams, offering buyers an SUV-style image with the running costs and driving dynamics of a conventional family hatchback and the practicality of a people carrier.

This formula has been so successful for Nissan that the firm has sold over 2 million examples of the original—all of which were (and are) built right here in the UK.

It will be an extremely tough act to follow. Especially with so many rival products now snapping at Nissan’s heels, waiting for it to slip up.

Nissan declared, “The new Qashqai pushes the boundaries of design and innovation—ushering in sector-first technologies and introducing fresh thinking in every area. From advanced aerodynamics to state of the art cabin infotainment systems, the new Qashqai represents Nissan at its most creative.”
