In a major new development, the Dubai Police has announced that motorists on their way to availing the 50% discount offer on their pending fines will be let off for minor traffic violations. This comes as a positive development for motorists as it will help them avail a massive discount on their pending fines. In February 2019, Dubai Police introduced a “Traffic Violations Settlement Scheme and announced a big discount offer for motorists with pending traffic fines.

According to the announcement, motorists with pending fines could avail a significant discount on their fines provided their driving record stays clean for a certain period. As per this announcement, motorists could avail 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% discount on their fines if they did not commit a traffic violation for three, six, nine or twelve months respectively. The new initiative to let off motorists for minor traffic violations has been taken to acknowledge their efforts for maintaining a clean traffic record over six months.

Details of the New Announcement by Dubai Police

Dubai Police has announced that motorists with a clean traffic record will be able to get away with minor traffic violations. This initiative will reward motorists for their good conduct and will help them get a 50% discount on their pending fines.

Pending heavy fines can prove to be a serious financial burden, especially for motorists on a tight budget. Dubai Police decided to offer relief to such motorists earlier this year and launched a new initiative to offer a discount from 25% to 100% on pending fines. With this discount offer, it became clear for motorists that the only way they could get rid of their pending fines was by maintaining a safe driving record for an extended period.

The 100% discount offer can only be availed if motorists don’t commit a traffic violation for the entire year. As the Traffic Violations Settlement Scheme was launched in February 2019, several motorists are now expected to become eligible for availing a 50% discount offer on their traffic fines.

Official Statement

Authorities have announced that motorists on their way to availing a 50% discount on their traffic fines will be let off for minor violations.  Dubai Police Commander in Chief, Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri said that authorities could not waste the efforts of motorists who have not committed a traffic violation for the last six months and were now close to availing a 50% discount on their pending fines. A minor traffic violation has been reported as an offence that doesn’t pose a risk to the public.

Authorities have also announced that since the launch of the Traffic Fines Settlement Scheme, 457,154 motorists have availed 25% discount on their traffic fines from a total of 1,260,046 violations recorded. During this period, the number of traffic deaths has decreased from 29 deaths recorded last year to 20 deaths recorded this year during the same period. This is a massive achievement by Dubai Police as the new initiative to offer discounts on traffic fines has helped authorities in improving the road safety situation significantly.

Bottom-line

The new announcement by Dubai Police will provide motorists with a massive relief as they will be able to get away with minor traffic violations. However, it must be noted that motorists will be penalized as per the Federal Traffic Law for committing any traffic violation that is considered unsafe for other road users. In such a situation, motorists will also lose their opportunity to avail a 50% discount on their traffic fines and will have to start over for maintaining a clean traffic record. Motorists must be careful and follow traffic rules to avoid dangerous road situations and to stay eligible for availing significant discounts on their pending fines.
