Vehicle Decoration Rules for National Day of the UAE

The festivities of the UAE’s National Day will run under the theme of “This is Zayed” to honour the founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. While vehicle decorations of any kind are not legal in the UAE, authorities have allowed limited vehicle decorations for the National Day celebrations. However, motorists can only decorate their vehicles from November 23 to December 6.

The guidelines for vehicle decorations issued by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police are given below:

  • Motorists will not be allowed to change the color of their vehicles. There are serious penalties for violating this rule, which include a hefty fine of AED 1,000, 12 black points and vehicle confiscation for one month.
  • Motorists will not be allowed to tint the windshield or driver’s window of their vehicles with any decorating material.
  • There should not be more passengers in a vehicle than its capacity.
  • Passengers must not dangle their head or arms out of the vehicle.
  • Motorists must not cover front and back license plates of a vehicle with any decorating material. Motorists will face a fine of AED 400 for committing this violation.

Other Traffic Violations that Motorists Must Avoid

The National Day will fall on Sunday, which means it will be a four-day long weekend for people in the UAE. In view of an expected increase in traffic volume, authorities have finalized their plans to maintain a smooth flow of traffic.

Authorities have advised motorists to remain careful and avoid committing dangerous traffic violations. Besides the penalties for violating the vehicle decoration rules, motorists can also face penalties if they commit following violations.

  • Tinting of vehicle windows more than the allowed 50% limit will be dealt with an AED 1,500 fine.
  • Motorists will have to pay a fine of AED 500 for posting pictures or writing words on a vehicle without permission.
  • Playing loud music in vehicles will result in AED 400 fine and four black points.
  • Motorists will face a fine of AED 400 for blocking traffic.
  • Throwing garbage from the vehicle will levy a fine of AED 1,000 and six black points will be issues against the motorist’s driving license.
