The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is all set to hold yet another Open Auction for special number plates in Dubai. RTA has announced that the historical Sheikh Zayed-Themed number plates will be available for auction along with other special number plates at the highly anticipated upcoming Open Auction.
The auction will be a part of RTA’s efforts to commemorate the legacy of the founding father of the UAE during the Year of Zayed. RTA has also released details of the other number plates that will be available for auction.

Details of the Sheikh Zayed-Themed number plates
RTA is all set to hold the Year of Zayed Open Auction for number plate enthusiasts on November 17, 2018. The Open Auction event will be conducted at Hilton Al Habtoor City in Dubai where 80 special number plates will be up for grabs. The registration for the auction has already begun and motorists will need to follow RTA’s standardized procedure to be able to register for the auction.
RTA has announced that 6 Sheikh Zayed-Themed number plates will be up for auction to celebrate some of the most significant historical milestones of the life of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Here are the details of the Sheikh Zayed-Themed number plates that will be available for auctions along with their historical perspective:
- Z1918 plate denotes the birth year of Sheikh Zayed.
- Z1946 plate represents the year when Sheikh Zayed was appointed as the Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region.
- Z1968 and Z68 plates will also be available for auction. These two number plates mark the date of the first meeting between the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and late Sheikh Zayed.
- Z1971 plate represents the year of establishment of the federation.
- Z2018 plate will be up for auction to celebrate the Year of Zayed.
The money generated from the auction of Sheikh Zayed-Themed number plates will be donated to charity. The details of other number plates have also been revealed, which will be available for bidding in the upcoming number plate auction. According to RTA, four and five digits fancy number plates will be available for auction including the special AA88 number plate.

How to Register for the Upcoming Open Auction?
To the delight of number plate enthusiasts, RTA has announced that there will be no restriction on the number of plates that an individual can buy. The process of registration can be completed through RTA website (www.rta.ae) or interested bidders can also visit RTA’s Customer Service Centres at Umm Al Ramool, Al Barsha, Deira and Al Tawar Municipal Centre.
Here are the things to know if you are looking to register for the upcoming RTA auction:
- The interested bidders must either have a Dubai registered vehicle or a valid Dubai based driving license.
- Bidders need to pay a subscription fee of AED 120 and a security deposit of AED 25,000. The security deposit can be redeemed if a bidder doesn’t have any successful bid. The deposits can be made through a cheque or credit card.
- Interested bidders can apply for registration from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM every day till November 17, 2018.
