The RAK Police has released a new traffic report that shows signs of improvement in the emirate’s road safety situation. The improvement in road safety situation has been particularly attributed to the installation of smart radars across the emirate. The 3-month report takes into account the traffic data from May to July 2018 and according to RAK Police, the road safety situation improved considerably during this period. The installation of radars has made motorists more aware of their responsibilities and made them more careful while driving, which has resulted in fewer road accidents and a significant reduction in road deaths.

Traffic authorities have also appreciated the role of motorists in improving the road safety situation. According to RAK Police, motorists’ compliance with traffic rules has helped authorities regulate the flow of traffic smoothly. Authorities have decided to continue enhancing their traffic monitoring capabilities to further improve the road safety situation in the emirate.

Details of the New Traffic Report

The latest traffic stats released by RAK Police show an encouraging improvement in the road safety situation. According to authorities, as many as 1,750 road accidents were recorded on internal roads and highways during the three months period from May to July, which shows a significant reduction of 23.4% in road accidents from last year.

During the same period of 2017, 2,285 road accidents were recorded on RAK roads. On the other hand, the number of road deaths has also gone down by 50% during this period, which is a positive development for traffic authorities who have been on the forefront of initiatives taken to improve the road safety situation in the emirate.

How Has Installation of New Radars Improved the Road Safety Situation?

As mentioned earlier, the installation of new radars has helped a great deal in improving the road safety situation. These highly efficient and advanced radars have been installed in different phases this year.

In the first phase, the RAK Police installed 69 new radars across the emirate, 32 of which were mobile speed radars. These radars were mainly installed along the major intersections where most of the dangerous road accidents were recorded in recent times. The major intersections where these radars were installed included intersections near Officers Club and Post Office, Immigration, Al Shamal, Nas Nas, Gulf Cinema and Al Manar. The exceptional capabilities of these radars included recording videos of traffic violations in real-time and transferring the data to the control room for immediate action against the offenders.

In the second phase, 15 new radars were installed near some other major intersections in RAK with an aim to control the flow of traffic better and deal with traffic offenders more effectively. These were three-in-one radars that were able to record three of the most dangerous traffic violations at the same time including sudden swerving, jumping the red signal and speeding violations. These advanced radars can track traffic violations at a rapid pace with incredible accuracy. Earlier this year, these three-in-one radars stunned the authorities by recording the video of an over-speeding motorist who was driving his vehicle at 204 Km/h.

Official Statement on Improved Road Safety Situation in RAK

The Director of the Central Operations of RAK Police, Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi said that the road safety situation has improved significantly during last few months, which is also evident in the road safety stats from May to July 2018. He said that the intensified road safety campaigns launched by RAK Police have had a major contribution in restoring safety on RAK roads.

He mentioned the increased Police patrolling on major roads and intersections and acknowledged the efforts of authorities in dealing with traffic problems of the emirate. He said that Police patrols were always on a high-alert on major roads including the Nakheel, Qussaidat, Old Ras Al Khaimah, Corniche Al Qawasim, Mohammed bin Salem, and Airport roads.

Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi added that the smart radars fitted across the emirate have had the most crucial role in curbing dangerous violations such as jumping the red signal, over-speeding and sudden swerving. He also appreciated motorists for complying with road safety practices and following traffic rules.

Bottom-line

The road safety situation has been gradually improving across the UAE during 2018. This is fundamentally a positive outcome of the amendments made to the traffic law last year, which were aimed at finding solutions to the major traffic problems of the UAE. The traffic rules regarding major traffic violations were changed in the amended traffic law, which levied harsher penalties for committing dangerous violations and some new policies to improve road safety situation were also implemented. With this major development and the ongoing efforts of the traffic authorities, the road safety situation has improved significantly during 2018 so far.

The improving road safety situation in RAK is an encouraging sign for authorities who have been working tirelessly to deal with the major traffic problems of the emirate. The road safety situation is expected to improve in the coming months as well if all the stakeholders continue to collaborate to make RAK roads safe for all commuters.
