Details of the New Service by RTA

The new service by the Roads and Transport Authority will provide a helpful solution to motorists on a tight budget and will also provide them with an opportunity to pay their pending fines in easy instalments. Motorists can apply for as many as 12 instalments to pay their pending fines through credit cards. Motorists can also obtain this service by paying the instalments through cheque, however, they can only use a cheque if their traffic fines amount to AED 5,000.

Motorists can avail this new RTA service if they have credit cards from one of these seven banks:

  • Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank
  • Mashreq Bank
  • Dubai Islamic Bank
  • Emirates NBD
  • Emirates Islamic Bank
  • Noor Bank
  • Commercial Bank International

Motorists with credit cards from these banks can avail this offer at present, however, authorities have announced that more banks will also offer this service shortly.

While motorists with their vehicles registered in other emirates can also pay their traffic fines in easy instalments, it is important to note that this offer is only valid for traffic fines issued by RTA.

The payment process needs to be completed through the smartphone application of the Roads and Transport Authority, which is available on both Android and Apple app stores. Motorists will need to install the app and create their account (if already not created) to avail this service.

Official Statement

Ahmad Al Kaabi, Executive Director of Finance at RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector said that the new initiative will help motorists pay their pending fines in easy instalments without incurring bank interests in a period of one year. RTA has taken a number of initiatives in the recent past to modernize the scope of its services for motorists. The digitalization of most of RTA’s services has been a standout initiative that has helped reduce the hassle involved in licensing and registration services and provided motorists with an opportunity to avail RTA services from the comfort of their homes. The new service to pay traffic fines in easy instalments is another initiative that aims at reducing the problems of motorists and improving the quality of RTA services.

Bottom-line

The new service offers motorists an opportunity to pay traffic fines in easy instalments is an important step taken by RTA that will help reduce the financial problems of motorists who have been under serious pressure of paying pending traffic fines. Traffic fines for most of the dangerous traffic violations were increased significantly last year when the new traffic law was implemented in the UAE. As a result, motorists now face hefty penalties for committing dangerous violations and paying these traffic fines can be seriously difficult, particularly for motorists on a tight budget. Motorists now need to follow the procedure outlined by authorities and avail the new service without any delay to ensure that they pay their fines timely.

While paying fines through this new RTA service has become a lot easier, it is important for motorists to recognize their responsibilities and avoid dangerous traffic violations. A careful and defensive driving approach will not only help avoid traffic fines, but will also prevent motorists from dangerous road situations. Additionally, safe driving approach by motorists can also help traffic authorities improve the road safety situation in Dubai, which has deteriorated quite badly over the last few years due to frequently committed dangerous traffic violations by motorists.
