Road safety situation in the UAE deteriorated quite badly during the Eid Al Fitr holidays as a number of minor and major dangerous road accidents were recorded from June 15 to June 17. Reckless driving behavior of motorists remained a cause for concern even on the festive event of Eid as traffic authorities remained on a high alert during the three-day holiday. Unfortunately, fatalities were also recorded in road accidents during Holidays, which is a worrying sign for authorities who had made the best arrangements to keep road safety situation under control on Eid Al Fitr.

Details of the Traffic Report Released by Ministry of Interior

The Ministry of Interior has released a new report that provides the figures for road accidents recorded during Eid holidays. According to this report, the road safety situation worsened during the Eid holidays as more than 900 road accidents were recorded and up to 27,000 emergency calls were received in just three days. Authorities also revealed that 9 people were killed and 35 others were seriously injured in 32 major road accidents recorded on different major roads across the UAE during Eid holidays.

These alarming figures clearly suggest that harsher steps need to be taken against traffic offenders to discourage them from committing dangerous violations that put the road safety of all commuters at a serious risk.

Reasons Behind Road Accidents Recorded During Eid Holidays

According to the authorities, over-speeding, inattentive driving, pedestrian crossing the roads from undesignated areas and sudden swerving were the most frequently committed traffic violations that caused dangerous accidents in which nine people lost their lives during the three-day holiday.

Official Statement about the Road Safety Situation in the UAE

He stated that despite repeated warnings issued by authorities, drivers were found to be extremely reckless in their behavior, which has been a long-standing road safety concern in the UAE. He called on the drivers to follow traffic rules to avoid dangerous road situations that can threaten the safety of all commuters.

He also made the mention of the road safety measures taken by authorities including awareness campaigns, increased traffic patrolling by Police and traffic monitoring through advanced radars. Bottom-line

Motorists need to be extra careful during public holidays as the influx of heavy traffic adds to the driving challenges on the busy roads of the UAE. Motorists need to maintain 100% attention on the road, especially when driving through tunnels and residential areas. Motorists also need to drive carefully along the highways and maintain the speed of their vehicles according to the speed limits of particular roads. Road accidents were recorded during Eid holidays in all emirates of the UAE including Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Consequently, traffic authorities in all of the emirates have warned motorists of a tougher stance, which will be adopted to curb the menace of reckless driving and make the UAE roads safe for all commuters.

Motorists should now be more careful in their approach and not repeat dangerous driving mistakes to avoid hefty penalties under the new and aggressive traffic monitoring approach of the traffic authorities.
