The 2018 BMW 5 Series sedan is a rear-wheel drive sedan that is also available with all-wheel drive. For the 2018 model, this luxury sedan also comes with a plug-in hybrid model and an M Performance model.

The standard engine available with the 530i and 530i xDrive models is a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder engine that has features such as Valvetronic, Double VANOS and high-precision direct injection to make the engine perform better than before. It is capable of producing 248 horsepower and a torque of 258 lb-ft.

The second engine available with the 540i and 540i xDrive models is a 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder engine that can produce 335 horsepower and a 332 lb-ft of torque.

The newly added M Performance engine available with the M550i xDrive model is a powerful 4.4-litre TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder engine that can produce 456 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.

Lastly, standard on the plug-in hybrid models (530e iPerformance and 530e xDrive iPerformance) is the 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor which is powered by a high voltage lithium-ion battery to generate an aggregate 248 horsepower while offering a very good fuel efficiency.
