After the launch of affordable Tesla Model 3 earlier this year, Tesla now aims to continue its expansion in other vehicle segments as well. The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, unveiled two new vehicles from the brand’s line up towards the end of last week that clearly exhibited Tesla’s vision for its future vehicles. Coming out of the 2016 Master Plan that also includes the expected launch of first-ever Tesla Pickup Truck and Tesla Bus, Musk unveiled the much-anticipated semi-trailer truck, Tesla Semi to an awed audience.

Elon Musk also unveiled the second-generation of Tesla Roadster to the great enthusiasm of the crowd. The event was a success to say the least and grabbed the attention of a global audience.

The Semi is expected to be released in 2019 while the Roadster is expected to reach the global car markets by 2020. Designed to be impressive while retaining the essence of Tesla styling, both of these vehicles are meant to take the brand’s reputation to the next level.

Here is everything that was revealed to the audience at the unveiling event of Tesla Semi and Tesla Roadster.

Tesla Semi – An All-Electric Semi-Trailer Truck

The Tesla Semi is still a prototype, but Tesla has big plans for it. This Class 8 all-electric semi-trailer truck has been planned to reach the production line in 2019. Boasting of an exceptional charging capacity and outstanding aerodynamics, the Semi is definitely a head turner in almost every aspect.

The futuristic look of the vehicle is aesthetically pleasing while we can still see the Tesla design elements on this huge vehicle. From the looks alone, this vehicle will stand out among other commercial vehicles in the market.

Breaking new ground in the production of a commercial truck, the design of Tesla Semi is not just avant-garde, but futuristic at the same time. While the exterior looks as innovative as you would expect a Tesla semi-trailer truck to be, the cabin of the vehicle houses some pleasing surprises. The cabin is designed to be comfortable for the driver, which is expected of any Tesla vehicle, but to bring the premium convenience features in a semi-trailer truck makes the Tesla Semi a stunning prospect for the automotive industry.

The driver can easily get in and out of the vehicle and will also be able to fully stand up inside the cabin. The driver’s seat is right in the center of the vehicle with a removable jump seat behind the driver’s seat for a passenger.

Also added to the cabin are two touchscreens that are placed on either side of the driver to offer better blind spot monitoring, navigation information and a lot more. Since this is a semi-trailer truck, the vehicle will also have a range of routing and fleet management tools.

As for its performance specifications, the Tesla Semi comes with an impressive drive range of 500 miles. With the solar-powered Tesla Megacharger, the vehicle can be charged to 80% in just 30 minutes. It will come with four electric motors on all four rear wheels.

It has a drag-coefficient of 0.36 which is truly remarkable for the truck of its size. When fully loaded, this vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just 20 seconds, while without any load, this vehicle can go from 0 to 60mph in just 5 seconds.

The Tesla Semi has a top speed of 65mph, which is about 50% faster than the average semi-truck. The vehicle will come with two different battery pack configurations, that is, a 300 miles and a 500 miles drive range on a single charge.

The semi-truck is fitted with latest technological features that include Enhanced Autopilot, Automatic Emergency Braking, Automatic Lane Keeping and Forward Collision. Tesla announced that this vehicle will require less maintenance than a conventional diesel truck.

Other standout features of the semi-truck include a windshield made of explosion proof glass and active safety controls that help in avoiding jackknifing. The Tesla Semi is expected to reach the global market in 2019.

Tesla Roadster – Second-Generation All-Electric Convertible

Elon Musk unveiled the second-generation of the Tesla Roadster just when the audience thought that the Semi unveiling event was ending. Tesla is calling the Tesla Roadster the quickest car in the world, thanks to its record-setting acceleration, performance and range.

This jaw-dropping four-seater sports car comes with a removable glass roof that takes the already edgy design of the car to a whole new level. This car has been designed by Franz von Holzhausen, who ensured the design of the vehicle is as aerodynamic as possible to reach record-setting efficiency and performance.

The performance specifications of the Tesla Roadster are just as impressive as the looks of this sports car. This is an all-wheel drive sports car with 200kWh battery pack and offers a drive range of 620 miles, which is equal to 1,000 kilometers.

Fitted with three electric motors, the Roadster has a massive wheel torque of 10,000Nm. Thanks to this, the car can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just 1.9 seconds and 0 to 100mph in just 8.8 seconds. Elon Musk did not give a definitive top speed, but he did mention that the top speed of the vehicle will be above 400 Km/h.

The Tesla Roadster is expected to be faster than a jet on a runway and is expected to reach the car markets in 2020 at the base price of $200,000 and a base reservation of $50,000. If this roadster is produced, it will be the fastest production car ever made.
