However, Nico Rosberg claimed the F1 World Title 2016 with 385 points in the season. Lewis Hamilton finished the season at second place with 380 points. It was all great fun to see an enthralling race in Abu Dhabi between the best Formula One drivers. Despite being under enormous pressure after losing some important points earlier in the season, Hamilton performed incredibly well to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2016. Some unusual tactics of Hamilton though came under scrutiny as he ignored the instructions coming from Mercedes management to speed up at crucial stages of the race.

An Intense F1 Title Fight at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2016

The stage got set at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to decide the champion of F1 Season 2016. Nico Rosberg could afford to lose the race but had to finish in 2nd or 3rd position to secure the F1 title. Hamilton, on the other hand, had no other option but to win the race and wait for Rosberg to lose the race comprehensively. The race began and Hamilton maintained a significant lead from the very start. Hamilton slowed down multiple times in the race to get other drivers into the competition and make it tough for Rosberg to finish at 2nd or 3rd. Hamilton ignored his team’s orders twice during the race when he was asked to increase the speed. He ignored it saying “Let us race”.

Hamilton’s fellow Mercedes, Driver Nico Rosberg complained to the management on the radio to do something otherwise this fierce battle to win the title will spoil an easy going relationship between him and Hamilton. When at one point, the Ferrari Driver Sebastian Vettel closed in on Rosberg, the Technical Executive Director of Mercedes, Paddy Lowe asked Hamilton to drive fast but Hamilton disregarded his advice as well. Despite all the efforts of Hamilton to push Rosberg behind, Rosberg kept his composure and finished second in the race. With that Rosberg became the 33rd F1 Champion and Hamilton won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2016.

The Celebrations Time at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2016

The intense title fight between Rosberg and Hamilton ended on a happier note as they congratulated each other on the podium. For Rosberg, it was a dream come true as he revitalized the winning moments of his Father Keke Rosberg who won the F1 championship in 1982.

One ravishing factor of the victory for Rosberg was the number sixth position from where he started the race and won it. The same feat was achieved by his father 34 years ago. While commenting on it, Rosberg said, it will be hard for him to choose his position for the next race as he had the number one position in his grasp now. After Graham and Damon Hill, Rosbergs are only the second family in which father and son have won the F1 World Championship.
