Dubai traffic police is always keen on introducing new programs and strategies to ensure road safety and minimize fatal accidents. In their bid to encourage the motorists, Dubai police awarded various gifts to the motorists who were either not reported for any traffic violation or made very few violations in the whole year. Gifts were handed over to the motorists with white points in one year. The two most cautious motorists received cars while others got other gifts from Dubai Police under white points system. On this Sunday, Lt. General Khamis Mattar Al Muzianah, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police gave car keys to the motorists who achieved maximum white points.
Importance of Encouraging Motorists to Drive Safe
At the occasion, Dubai Police Chief said that it was a whole new idea to reward motorists for abiding by traffic rules as there are not many places in the world where motorists are encouraged for their watchful behavior. He also stated that we should encourage motorists and appreciate them for showing concern for their own safety and the safety of others. He further added that our main objective is to motivate motorists to abide by traffic rules and expected positive outcomes of this initiative in the near future.
The total number of motorists who have been awarded by Dubai Police with different prizes is 1,800. It is a figure higher than previous year when 1,500 motorists were rewarded. Out of 1,800 motorists, 1,090 were men while 710 were women.

Criterion to Qualify for Reward by Dubai Police
This practice to reward motorists has been in action since 2013. A motorist who owns a valid driving license in Dubai and also has a registration license of the vehicle is eligible for white points system.
Every eligible motorist receives 2 white points in a month and total 24 points in a year. These points are cut if a motorist gets caught for a traffic violation in a month. For each violation, one point gets cut from the total points of the owner of car regardless of the fact that he/she was driving the car or not when violation was made. After one year, the white points of all motorists are calculated and rewards are handed over to motorists with maximum points. The reward of a car is only given to those motorists who never got caught in a violation throughout the year and maintained complete 24 points.
Both car winning motorists this year are Emiratis, aged between 18-21 years. They were awarded with Hyundai Veloster and Hyundai Sonata cars in collaboration with Hill Advertising. These motorists completely fulfilled the award winning criteria which is not to commit any single traffic violation for the whole year and get 24 white points.
Response of the Award Winning Motorists
The award winning motorists passed their gratitude to Dubai Police on this encouraging scheme for motorists and told that it motivated them to follow traffic rules and maintain a clean traffic record. One of the car winning motorists Dr. Fatima Darwish Al Emmadi said that she always tried to abide by traffic rules and it led her to improve her traffic record from the previous year. Now, she wished to donate her car award to a charity organization. She also expressed hope that motorists, especially young drivers will drive safe and will be more careful due to this particular incentive offered by Dubai Police.
