In light of a recent government resolution, the ‘Parking Fees’ have almost been doubled for around 23% of the total parking areas of Dubai. The change is brought about mostly for the older parts of Dubai from Deira to Satwa. The increase would also impact the fees charges for the hours per day.
Reason of Increase in Parking Fee
The main motive behind increasing the parking fees in specific areas of Dubai is to promote the use of public transport there. The other purpose is to elevate the generation rate in the parking lots controlled by the Government.
Updated Parking Fees
The new Parking Fee Plan has categorized different areas of Dubai. The first category is of the areas where fees are increased. The other category corresponds to the areas with unchanged fees. The parking fees have almost been doubled for the first category and the plan demonstrates the following rates for parking on the street sides and parking lots:
For Side of the Streets
- Dh2 for 30 Minutes
- Dh4 for 1 Hour
- Dh8 for 2 Hours
- Dh12 for 3 Hours
- Dh16 for 4 Hours
For Parking Lots
- Dh3 for 1 Hours
- Dh6 for 2 Hours
- Dh8 for 3 Hours
- Dh12 for 4 Hours
- Dh15 for 5 Hours
- Dh20 For 24 Hours
Parking Fee for Other Areas
The second category of parking areas includes the places where the existing parking fees will not change. The plan will remain same.
Parking in the Street Sides
- Dh2 for 1 Hour
- Dh5 for 2 Hours
- Dh8 for 3 Hours
- Dh11 for 4 Hours
Parking in the Parking Lots
- Dh2 for 1 Hour
- Dh4 for 2 Hours
- Dh5 for 3 Hours
- Dh7 for 4 Hours
- Dh10 for 24 Hours
The Parking Fee for Multiple Parking level garages is Dh5 per Hour.
Seasonal Parking Permits
According to the new tariff for the change in the parking fee, the seasonal parking permits for both sides of streets and parking lots have been increased as well. The new parking charges for seasonal permits are given below.
For Side of Streets
- Dh1400 for 3 Months
- Dh2500 for 6 Months
- Dh4500 for 1 Year
For Parking Lots
- Dh700 for 3 Months
- Dh1300 for 6 Months
- Dh2500 for 1 Year
For Multi-parking Level Garages
- Dh2000 for 3 Months
- Dh4000 for 6 Months
- Dh8000 for 1 Year
For students, Dh300 will be charged for three months.
Public Outrage for Increase in Parking Fees
The residents of Dubai are not happy at all with the increase in the parking fees; in fact, they are offended by this change. With all existing expenses, this step seems to have added more pressure on them. The overall reaction of residents and especially, the foreign students is not in favor of this change that is brought about to encourage the public transport use. The majority of people does not feel that way and are still not ready to adopt public transport as an option after the parking fee increase.
The resolution for the increase of parking fees has been accepted and publicized but it is still not implemented. The official statement in this regard says that the new parking fees will be effective after 60 days of its publicity.
