The Mercedes G Class is one car that still boasts a rich car history seeing as it first released in the late 70’s. Where other car models have been refined aesthetically to please the customers as the years wear on, the G class has kept relatively the same outlook with the only changes coming in the inside of the vehicle so as to strike a fine balance between a rich legacy and modern technology with enhanced off-road performance.
Updates and Outstanding Features
On the outside, the front bumper was touched up a little without deviating significantly from the iconic design from the German manufacturer. The G550 has substituted the naturally aspirated to 5.5 liter V8 engine to a twin turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 engine. This has seen the output increase from 388 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque to 416 horses and 450 pound-feet of torque with a purported 17 per cent increase in fuel efficiency.
The car rating of the other two models in this class also spikes due to the enhanced engine performance. The G63 AMG model’s twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 gets improved power from 544 to 563 horsepower while torque remains the same at 560 pound-feet whereas the G65 AMG is fitted with a 6.0 liter V12 engine churning out 621 horsepower and torque of 738 pound-feet.
The contrast between the exterior and the interior is as apparent as that between black and white with no discernible shades of grey. The interior shows off the leaps and bounds that car design has come with many up to date features and bells and whistles of this half decade. These include heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, illuminated door sills, ambient lighting, and a Harmon/Kardon surround sound system. There’s also a variety of trim to choose from including carbon, carbon fiber and burl walnut to mention but a few.
The car maker also includes the COMAND system worked through a central screen to operate the navigation, entertainment and communication functions. This gives a clean finish due to the reduced number of knobs and buttons.
Pricing
With the upgrades on this iconic off-roader, the car rating is sure to go up and it is no surprise therefore that the car price is higher than the previous installment. The G550 is priced at AED375000. The G63 AMG and the G65 AMG can go up to half a million dirhams.
