600 Focus Recalled by Ford

Ford Motor Company is recalling 600 units of its Focus brand due to various glitches and defects it has found in the car. The potential defects are hazarded to be in the steering column. Ford carried out quality checks and extensive car evaluation and found out the glitch though the cars had already been shipped out to the dealerships but not yet to the public.

Ford plans to keep the car rating of its fleet high and has such ordered its dealers to repair the defect before rolling the Focus off the ramp for any test drives or even outright sales. The exact problem lies in the fact there may not be enough ball bearings in the steering gear assembly. This results in the degradation of the remaining ball bearings as well as their deformation. The risk of crashing is greatly increased due to the impaired steering or loss of steering control.

The company maintains that no car with the potential defect has yet made it to the end consumer, stating that 502 units were in transit to US dealers whereas there was automotive export of about 108 units to Canada. This is sure to restore some sort of faith with the public though.
