The General Directorate for Criminal Investigation in Dubai Police prepared a comprehensive plan to address the crimes of cars theft that left by their owners in running condition where this condition usually increases in the summer season, based on an extensive study of the main causes for this phenomenon and its areas plus gangs and people who get involved in through inspection campaigns where these campaigns have recorded 45 crimes in the same way in 2011 and three cases in the first quarter of 2012. Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, director of the General Directorate for Inquiries and Criminal Investigation said that the neglect of cars’ owners is the main reason behind those crimes that usually increases in the summer due to leaving the cars by their owners in the running condition in order to keep them air-conditioned while their return to keep the interior part away from the intense heat.
Also, Al Mansouri said: “the study identified and located specific locations where the automotives theft crimes happen in the running condition where these locations are in front of stores of various kinds, grocery stores, banks, mosques, homes, petrol stations, health clinics, fast-food restaurants and busy streets”. He pointed out that the owners of these cars leave them for minutes without noting that there are criminals waiting for an opportunity to steal them in less than that. He mentioned that the index of such crimes over the past years forced the administration to analyze and monitoring of the most prominent methods used by the perpetrators especially as these crimes are spreading in the same way in many countries that are similar in circumstances, as well as the recurrence remains a question mark despite the repeated warnings by the security committees for vehicles’ owners especially in the summer season in addition to the registration of violation against the same person doubles his losing.
Al Mansouri said: “the common factor in these crimes is the ease of the implementation and possibly sometimes nonprofessionals’ thieves are involving in these crimes where they find a luxury car that open and in running condition so it will not cost those more than move it”. He pointed out that this problem increases in the highly populated areas according to the reports monitored by the study, which revealed that the thieves are waiting for an opportunity in different ways and do not seem suspension at all before doing their crimes.
